19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial championship for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a difficult year, managing just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial trophy after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court since spring of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a title is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular reactions on the playing surface had led commentators to question if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

He defended 4 initial break points in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, he earned victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
